Portable Pool Program

Our board and executive director have been working hard to find a way to bring water safety education to our valley with the limited access to pools our valley has. Board Chair, Barbara Beller, came across a Portable Pool Program that has been going strong for almost 50 years in the city of San Diego.

TVA has partnered with the City of Driggs to bring this program to Teton Valley. The City has graciously offered to supply a park location that we can build the portable pool at, along with covering costs on utilies and storage for winter. TVA has been busy applying for grants that will help with the one time purcahse of the pool equipment along with funds to help offset costs to those that can't afford lessons. We won't know until June if we have received the grants to fund the equipment, but during the next few months we will be meeting with interested donors to discuss funding opportunities outside of grant monies.

During May we will be sending information out on registering for swim lessons. Our goal is to offer lessons starting in mid-July through the end of August. Sessions will be 4 weeks long, two lessons per week. We are also looking to host a senior water aerobics class along with renting the pool out to local physical therapist for PT.

Come June, we will purchase and build the portable pool with the help of volunteers. If you are interested in helping, please sign up for our mailing list.

The portable pool program will be viable for many years to come, usuable even after we have our aquatic facility built. The possiblity to move it to other locations to fill needs is high. This is a evolving program and is new to everyone involved, so things might change, but we are doing are best to bring much needed water safety offerings to our valley.
